new series of “Whole Hog” videos, produced through the Saskatchewan Pork Development Board’s Whole Hog Youth Ambassador Program, is helping to inspire the next generation of pork industry leaders.
The latest three-and-a-half-minute videos showcase the wide range of career opportunities available within the pork sector — extending beyond barn production to include roles in science, education, business, and technology.
Jessica Podhordeski, Community Relations and Ag Education Coordinator with Sask Pork, said the goal of the program is to engage students in Grades 5 through 12 and help them understand how food is produced and the diverse people behind it.
“The Whole Hog video series is a way to reach more youth in the province and educate them about the pork industry,” said Podhordeski. “Our first series focused on what happens in the barn to produce quality pork, while this second series shines a light on careers that support the industry from the outside. Educating students is the foundation of moving the industry forward.”
Podhordeski added that transparency and public understanding are key to sustaining consumer confidence and attracting new talent.
The Whole Hog: What Has Our Youth Ambassador Been Up To? segment will be featured during Saskatchewan Pork Industry Symposium 2025, taking place November 4–5 in Saskatoon.
The videos are available on Sask Pork’s YouTube channel and shared across their social media platforms.
