The National Pork Board (NPB) and the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) have launched an online survey designed to shape the creation of a comprehensive National Swine Health Strategy.
This collaborative effort, supported by the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV), is focused on identifying and addressing the most pressing health challenges facing the U.S. pork industry.
Dr. Lisa Becton, Associate Director at SHIC, emphasized that while African Swine Fever (ASF) has been a major focus since its emergence in 2018, domestic diseases such as PRRS, PED, and swine influenza continue to pose significant threats to herd health and producer profitability.
“This is a producer-driven effort,” said Dr. Becton. “We want to hear directly from producers on what matters most. This includes identifying the top three disease concerns and exploring how the industry can better respond to those challenges with practical solutions.”
Producers and swine sector stakeholders are encouraged to complete the survey by September 1, 2025. The survey is available through the Swine Health Information Center’s July eNewsletter at swinehealth.org and the Pork Checkoff website.
The insights gathered will be instrumental in guiding future initiatives to protect and strengthen the health of the U.S. swine herd.
