Leading up to the Super Bowl in February, Kansas City, Mo.-based Seaboard Foods had a friendly competition with Philadelphia-based Leidy’s Premium Meats.
The two companies agreed to donate $10,000 of pork to a charity fighting hunger in the other’s city, depending on which city’s team won the football game.
Seaboard was to donate to Philabundance if Philadelphia won, and Leidy’s was to donate to Operation BBQ Relief if Kansas City won.
Operation BBQ Relief provides barbecue to first responders and those affected by natural disasters, and Philabundance is a member of Feeding America, providing meals through food banks.
While Kansas City did come out on top, Seaboard decided to also make its donation to Philabundance in addition to Leidy’s donation to Operation BBQ Relief.
“Both of these organizations do so much for those they serve,” said Chad Groves, senior vice president of sales, marketing and innovation for Seaboard Foods. “As we showed our hometown pride, it was so much fun to highlight the good work of both groups leading up to the big game. We’re honored to support these deserving organizations with donations that will help them continue feeding those in need.”
