Butterball Unveils Sleek, Lower-Sodium Rope Smoked Turkey Sausage

By tweaking its smoked sausage recipe and packaging, Butterball has launched a brand-new rope-style smoked turkey sausage across the U.S. and international retail markets. The revamped product features a more premium look, enhanced smoky flavor, and significantly reduced sodium, all while improving its visual appeal on store shelves.

The move comes in response to evolving consumer preferences. As Butterball’s CPG brand manager Ana Haynes explains, the company sought feedback indicating demand for “a more craveable smoked turkey sausage with less salt and a more premium look.” The result—a product that’s juicy, bold in flavor, and lower in sodium—aims to elevate both taste and nutrition while complementing everyday meals. Consumers will likely notice it by the end of 2025 as the new sausage replaces prior versions.

Butterball also highlights versatility as a key advantage: the new rope sausage can be grilled, sautéed, or air-fried, and its lean profile makes it a flexible fit for a wide range of recipes.

Earlier this year, Butterball reported strong financial performance: through June, net sales were up 5.4% year-to-date, and net income rose 13%, marking a positive trajectory for the brand in 2025.
