Stay on Massachusetts’ Prop 12 law extended

Clarified earlier this week, a  stay on an animal welfare measure aimed at pork producers in Massachusetts, similar to California’s Prop 12 law, be extended to August 23.District Judge Margaret R. Guzman granted the order.

Both sides agreed to extend the stay period until August 23 in order to try to rectify issues that SCOTUS’s Prop 12 ruling did not resolve.

In August last year, the Massachusetts Restaurant Association (MRA) and others including the National Pork Producers Council sued the state of Massachusetts, and secured a stay on enforcement of a ballot initiative measure known as Question 3.
