Standard Nutrition Company Introduces Passel Farms, Announces Acquisition of Cactus Family Farms

Standard Nutrition Company (SNC) is excited to announce the formation of Passel Farms, a new entity resulting from the reorganization of SNC’s investments, resources, and partnerships dedicated to pork production. This strategic move aims to drive future growth and innovation within the industry.

A key component of this evolution is SNC’s collaboration with new investment partners, including an investment vehicle affiliated with Ospraie Management, LLC (Ospraie), to facilitate the acquisition of Cactus Family Farms. The creation of Passel Farms is set to enhance operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and position the organization for competitive growth and innovation in the pork production sector.

Passel Farms will operate as a large farrow-to-finish production system with locations in Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Carolina. The combined expertise of professionals in pork production, feed manufacturing, animal science and welfare, environmental and employee safety, information technology, finance, risk management, and accounting will ensure Passel Farms is well-equipped to seize new opportunities regardless of production and market cycles.

“Our company has navigated through a challenging period in the pork industry,” said Pat Joyce, CEO of Passel Farms. “Our success is due to our dedicated team members who have passionately served our farms, mills, and business, as well as our investments and partners. By reorganizing SNC’s investments and resources under Passel Farms and acquiring Cactus Family Farms, we are poised to build on this success through better alignment and integration.”

Since its inception in 2004, SNC’s Pork Holdings division has been investing in pork production partnerships and assets, supporting its sow management services for partners and clients. Over the past two decades, Pork Holdings evolved into several successful farrow-to-finish operations, leading to expanded management services and investments. The name “Passel Farms” reflects the group’s dedication and passion for serving farms and farmers through pork production investments.

Cactus Family Farms, previously the pork production arm of Cactus Feeders Inc., began operations in 2014 and has grown significantly over the past decade. The integration of Cactus Family Farms will complement Passel Farms’ production system design, personnel, assets, and geographical reach.

“We are excited to integrate Cactus Family Farms into the success story of Standard Nutrition Company and its evolution into Passel Farms,” said Brad Hastings, co-CEO of Cactus Feeders. “Our strong, diverse agricultural background will complement Passel Farms’ strategies and its goal of building a more integrated, future-ready business.”

Pat Joyce added, “Since its launch, Cactus Family Farms has proven to be an innovative, data-driven, and forward-looking company that invests in people, assets, and technology. We welcome their expertise and knowledge as we anticipate continued growth in the pork industry.”

This reorganization and acquisition mark a significant milestone for SNC and Passel Farms, setting the stage for a bright future in pork production.
