Smithfield Foods Receives Multiple Awards for Sustainability, Safety, and Workforce Achievements

Smithfield Foods’ U.S. facilities have been honored for their outstanding achievements in environmental stewardship, workplace safety, and diversity initiatives by the Meat Institute’s 2023 awards program.

Stewart Leeth, Chief Sustainability Officer for Smithfield Foods, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the company’s commitment to continuous improvement.

Forty-six Smithfield locations received environmental recognition awards for their dedication to environmental improvement, with forty-two plants achieving the highest tier possible.

Ten Smithfield facilities were recognized for their innovative work in emissions reduction, energy conservation, packaging and/or food waste reduction, technological innovation, and water conservation, winning first place in all five categories.

Additionally, forty-three Smithfield locations earned the Meat Institute’s worker safety recognition award for their high level of safety performance.

Smithfield was also acknowledged for its Unity & Action program, a $15 million investment aimed at fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
