Smithfield Foods Establishes $250,000 Scholarship Program at University of Mount Olive

In an effort to support higher education, Smithfield Foods has introduced a new endowed scholarship program worth $250,000 at the University of Mount Olive (UMO) in North Carolina. This initiative aims to alleviate a portion of tuition and fees for deserving students selected as recipients. Each year, the university intends to grant the Smithfield scholarship to one rising junior and one rising senior as part of a collaborative partnership. H. Edward Croom, President of UMO, expressed optimism about the impact this partnership will have on future students and the communities they serve, as highlighted in a recent news release.

This scholarship program underscores Smithfield’s ongoing dedication to enhancing educational opportunities, particularly for the dependents of its contract growers. By investing in education, Smithfield aims to empower individuals and foster positive outcomes for both students and the communities they belong to.
