SCS Global Services (SCS), a pioneer in third-party food and agriculture certifications and standards development, has been approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to offer Proposition 12 Certification. Proposition 12, also known as the Farm Animal Confinement Initiative, sets essential requirements to improve the living conditions of farm animals in California.
Starting this year, all producers of egg-laying hens, breeding pigs, and veal calves, along with distributors of covered products intended for sale in California, must possess a valid certificate of compliance. This certificate ensures that animals are housed in conditions that prioritize their well-being, including provisions for freedom of movement, cage-free environments, and adequate floor space.
