Iowa Pork Producers Champion Land Stewardship

Dennis Heemstra, proud steward of the land, emphasizes that most farmers are dedicated to preserving and improving their land. He and his wife, Lori, farm near Primghar in O’Brien County, Iowa, managing a 3,300-head wean-to-finish site and 700 acres of corn and soybeans. Recently named Iowa Environmental Stewardship Award winners by the Iowa Pork Producers Association, the Heemstras implement various conservation practices, including reduced tillage, grass waterways, and tree buffers. Their efforts in land stewardship and sustainability are documented through the Pork Cares Farm Impact Report, highlighting their continuous improvements.

The Heemstras are also active in their community, participating in various local organizations and maintaining involvement in the O’Brien County Pork Producers, Iowa Farm Bureau, and Christ Community Church in Primghar. Their dedication to both farming and community service exemplifies their commitment to sustainable agriculture and responsible land management.
