Court Orders Agri Stats to Proceed with Discovery in Antitrust Case

A Minnesota federal judge has ruled that Agri Stats cannot halt discovery in an antitrust lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice. The lawsuit alleges that Agri Stats facilitated the exchange of sensitive information among producers, potentially leading to reduced output and higher prices in the pork, chicken, and turkey markets.

Despite Agri Stats’ motions to transfer venue and dismiss the case, the court ordered the company to comply with document requests from the DOJ. Agri Stats argued that discovery would be burdensome due to existing documentation from prior litigation, but the court sided with the DOJ, emphasizing the importance of proceeding with the discovery process.
