The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has been awarded $242,600 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Emerging Markets Program (EMP) to help further expand U.S. animal food exports to Vietnam—a rapidly growing market for American agriculture.
The funding will support ongoing business-to-business relationship building, technical assistance, and promotional efforts to advance the reach of U.S. animal food products in the Vietnamese market.
“We appreciate the continued support from the USDA through the Emerging Markets Program,” said AFIA President and CEO Constance Cullman.
“This partnership enables us to expand opportunities for U.S. animal food products in promising global markets, fostering long-term growth for our industry and reinforcing the value of American agriculture on the world stage.”
Vietnam: A Growing Opportunity
Since AFIA began targeted market development programs in Vietnam in 2021, U.S. animal food exports have surged from $1.6 million to $2.8 million—a 40% increase from 2023 to 2024 alone. The impact of USDA’s EMP, paired with AFIA’s strategic approach, is creating measurable gains for U.S. feed and ingredient suppliers.
“Exports drive growth for American animal food manufacturers and that growth extends beyond individual companies,” Cullman added.
“The animal food sector plays a vital role in supporting U.S. jobs and strengthening our economy.”
Looking Ahead: Vietnam Trade Mission 2025
As part of this initiative, AFIA will lead a Trade Mission to Vietnam from October 20–23, 2025. The mission will allow AFIA members to connect directly with buyers, tour facilities, and gain firsthand insights into Vietnam’s evolving animal food industry.
Through USDA’s EMP, the Foreign Agricultural Service helps fund feasibility studies, market research, sector assessments, orientation visits, training, and business workshops. AFIA continues to utilize these tools to open new doors for its members and the broader U.S. feed industry.
