Suidae Health & Production has announced the addition of Dr. Kim Baker to its veterinary team, reinforcing the company’s mission to serve independent pork producers with leading expertise, meaningful field support, and a dedication to improving pig health at every stage of production.
Based in southern Iowa, Dr. Baker brings a unique blend of hands-on production knowledge, veterinary medicine, and passion for swine health rooted deeply in on-farm practice and producer partnership.
A Strong Production Background
Dr. Baker’s journey in the swine industry began as an undergraduate at Iowa State University, where she earned her B.S. in Animal Science in 2014. She went on to complete both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master’s in Veterinary Preventive Medicine at Iowa State in 2020.
Following graduation, Dr. Baker served as a staff veterinarian for a large, fully integrated swine system, gaining comprehensive experience “from semen to shackle.” Her expertise spans the entire production chain, and she has developed key interest areas in:
-
Improving wean-to-market livability
-
On-farm biosecurity optimization
-
Hands-on production troubleshooting
-
Mentorship of veterinary students and young professionals
Focused on What’s Best for the Pig—and the Producer
Dr. Baker is known for her problem-solving approach and dedication to finding creative, practical solutions that support stronger production outcomes for independent farmers. She is driven by one core principle: always do what is best for the pig. Her approach aligns with Suidae’s producer-first philosophy and long-standing reputation as a trusted partner in swine health and performance.
Rooted in Agriculture & the Outdoors
Dr. Baker lives in Morning Sun, Iowa, with her two Brittanys, Mabel and Annie. Outside of the barn, she trains her dogs for field trials and hunt tests and is an avid outdoorswoman. When she’s not consulting with producers, she can be found on the prairie hunting, hiking, practicing nature photography, or working in the garden. A proud Iowa State Cyclone fan, she says, “It’s a Cyclone state!”
Advancing Swine Health in the Heartland
The addition of Dr. Baker reflects Suidae Health & Production’s continued investment in veterinary leadership to support the long-term resilience of independent producers. Her passion for fieldwork, animal welfare, and producer collaboration will play a critical role in helping clients navigate today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities in the pork industry.
Suidae Health & Production welcomes Dr. Kim Baker to the team and looks forward to the impact her expertise will have across the Midwest swine community.
