Happy Thanksgiving

I love this time of year as it gives me time to reflect on how truly blessed I am. With everything going on around us, sometimes it’s hard to find the time to realize how fortunate we really are.

The past few weeks have been crazy. You would think that with harvest behind us, things would slow down a bit.

Well, we tried.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday with family a couple of weeks ago. We then took a quick trip out to the Black Hills to recharge and celebrate his milestone birthday. It was a great trip even though we were both sick with colds. I honestly can say, I haven’t had a cold like this for many years. Glad I am over it.

I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner. Today, I am cooking turkey and ham. Did you know Minnesota is #1 in turkey and #2 in hog production? Love supporting our local industries!

Government Payments?

It seems every day we hear different views on whether farmers will receive a government assistance payment. Agriculture is tough right night. Costs have gone up substantially, while crop and livestock prices have not.

Unfortunately, this is part of the rollercoaster of farming I talk about frequently. Most farmers really don’t want to have to rely on these payments. But what does one do when machinery, crop inputs, insurance and property taxes increase at a much faster rate than the prices we receive for our products? When our machinery breaks, we need to fix it.

Personally, I am not going to lose sleep over whether we will receive any payments or not. What will be, will be. And this is where I rely on God. I can’t worry about tomorrow, even though it is tempting.

Children’s Ag Books

I have updated my Amazon Store’s Children’s Books about Food. I absolutely love these books. So if you are looking for Christmas gifts for children, I highly recommend looking at these books. I feel we need to teach our young where their food comes from.

As a Reminder . . .

Now What?

We have been working on “winterizing” our machinery and building site. This is painful for me as I don’t enjoy the cold and winter season. In fact, I am always looking for warmer clothes to wear during this season. I love the fleece-lined leggings and wool socks. I also have these items in my Minnesota Farm Store since these are my favorite. Check them out if you wish!

Other than that, Christmas will be here soon. I have NOT started decorating as I have the old-fashioned belief that I should wait until after Thanksgiving.
