South Dakota Swine Summit Returns June 6 at SDSU

The next generation of pork producers will take center stage this summer as the South Dakota Swine Summit returns on June 6, 2026, at South Dakota State University.

Designed for youth ages 12–21, the one-day program offers hands-on exposure to the swine industry, combining practical learning with real-world insights into modern pork production.

A Full Day of Industry-Focused Learning

Hosted at the SDSU Swine Education and Research Facility, participants will experience a comprehensive agenda that blends classroom sessions with facility tours.

Key learning areas include:

  • Biosecurity and herd health
  • Nutrition and feeding strategies
  • Animal evaluation and showmanship
  • Daily care and management practices
  • Carcass evaluation and anatomy

The program is built to give attendees a deeper understanding of the full production cycle—connecting what happens in the barn to outcomes across the supply chain.

Inside a Leading Research Facility

Participants will tour the SDSU Swine Education and Research Facility, gaining exposure to current practices, technologies, and research shaping the industry.

Experiences like this play a critical role in bridging the gap between education and application—helping young people see the opportunities within modern agriculture.

Building the Next Generation of Leaders

Programs like the South Dakota Swine Summit continue to highlight the importance of investing in youth development across the pork industry.

As workforce challenges and industry evolution continue, creating early, meaningful connections to agriculture is essential. Events like this not only educate—they inspire future producers, veterinarians, and industry leaders.
