SHIC Extends Funding for Domestic Swine Disease Monitoring Report Through September 2026

The Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) has announced an extension of funding for its widely used Domestic Swine Disease Monitoring Report through September 2026, reinforcing the organization’s ongoing commitment to proactive herd health intelligence and industry-wide transparency.

Compiled by Iowa State University and supported by SHIC since 2017, the monthly report provides a comprehensive snapshot of disease diagnostic trends across the U.S. swine herd. The report is distributed through SHIC’s monthly eNewsletter and made publicly available on its website, serving as a trusted resource for veterinarians, producers, and allied industry professionals.

According to Dr. Lisa Becton, the report plays a critical role in helping the industry understand herd health challenges as they evolve.

The monitoring system compiles diagnostic data across multiple production stages, sample types, and geographic regions, allowing stakeholders to visualize disease activity on a monthly basis. By tracking patterns over time, the report helps identify shifts in disease trends, unexpected changes in diagnostic results, and potential emergence in new regions—supporting early awareness and informed decision-making.

Beyond day-to-day herd health management, the data also contributes to longer-term industry value. Insights from the monitoring report can help spark targeted research initiatives and support the development of future veterinary professionals, strengthening the industry’s overall preparedness and resilience.

Producers, veterinarians, and industry partners interested in staying informed on domestic and global swine disease trends are encouraged to subscribe to SHIC’s monthly eNewsletter to receive ongoing updates and access to these reports.

Swine Web will continue to highlight tools and initiatives that support proactive health management and data-driven decision-making across the pork industry.
