Over 35 farms, ranches, and agri-food operations across Saskatchewan will open their gates to the public on August 9 and 10 as part of the second annual Saskatchewan Open Farm Days.
Organized by Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan, the event gives urban residents a rare chance to step onto working farms and talk directly with producers about how their food is grown and raised.
“We have everything from large grain farms to horticulture operations, cattle ranches, even trail tours on horseback,” said Executive Director Clinton Monchuk. “It’s very diverse and exciting.”
The event includes stops near Saskatoon, Regina, Humboldt, and Val Marie, with special experiences ranging from distillery visits to the Western Development Museum’s agriculture displays.
While not all farms involved are pork-specific, Swine Web supports initiatives that bring producers and consumers together. In a time when misinformation and disconnects continue to challenge animal agriculture, programs like Open Farm Days offer a vital opportunity to rebuild trust.
2024 Recap
Last year’s inaugural event drew close to 3,000 visitors, averaging about 100 guests per location. The majority came from urban centers eager to learn more about food and farming.
