For three decades, Tom Boge has been a driving force in Iowa Select Farms’ wean-to-market team, ensuring pigs receive the care, nutrition, and environment they need to thrive. As Senior Wean-to-Market Supervisor, Tom’s leadership has set the standard for dedication in the pork industry.
“There’s no secret to raising pigs,” Tom says. “Give them proper ventilation, food, water, and care, and you’ll have the world’s happiest, healthiest pigs.” That simple yet powerful philosophy has guided his career, where he oversees pigs from six weeks of age, fostering their growth with precision and care.
Tom credits his success to the team around him. “I’m only one person,” he says. “If I didn’t have the team of people I have with me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.” His respect for teamwork and strong work ethic have made him a valued mentor in the company.
Beyond the farm, Tom’s leadership is rooted in service. A 21-year veteran of the Iowa National Guard’s 34th Infantry “Red Bulls” Division, he served in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, and Afghanistan, retiring as Sgt. 1st Class. His military discipline and commitment to service are evident in everything he does, from caring for pigs to supporting his colleagues.
Congratulations, Tom, on 30 incredible years! Your unwavering dedication to Iowa Select Farms, the pork industry, and your country is truly inspiring.
