Meet the Future: Iowa Pork Producers Association Welcomes 2025 Summer Interns

The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) is investing in the next generation of pork industry leaders by welcoming two Iowa State University students as their 2025 summer interns.

Alley Odland of Webster City, Iowa, is stepping into the role of promotions and outreach intern. A junior in animal science with a swine certificate, Odland is actively involved in county pork promotions, the Bacon Buddies® program, and IPPA’s summer grilling events. She’s also playing a key role in preparing the farrowing display for the Iowa State Fair.

“I’m beyond excited to spread my passion for the pork industry in a professional and impactful way,” Odland says. “This internship is a great opportunity to advocate for producers and connect with consumers.”

Josh Wiley of Walker, Iowa, also a junior in animal science, joins IPPA as the legislative intern. Wiley is kicking off his summer in Washington, D.C., gaining firsthand experience in agricultural policy by working with lawmakers, attending hearings, and building an understanding of how decisions in the capital impact producers back home.

“This internship is the perfect blend of policy and consumer outreach,” Wiley says. “From Capitol Hill to the Pork Tent at the Iowa State Fair, I’m seeing the full scope of how we support pork production.”

Both interns are planning careers in agriculture. Odland aims to stay rooted in the swine industry, while Wiley plans to pursue an MBA with a focus on swine genetics.

As IPPA continues its mission to promote a sustainable and globally competitive pork industry, these internships reinforce the importance of mentorship and leadership development.
