Kaylyn Rudy Joins SDSU Extension as Swine Field Specialist

South Dakota State University has appointed Kaylyn Rudy as an Extension swine field specialist, strengthening its commitment to supporting swine producers with research-driven expertise.

Based in Mitchell, Rudy will work directly with producers to identify industry needs and provide practical, research-based solutions. She is passionate about helping operations thrive and creating educational opportunities for current and future agriculturalists.

A native of Illinois, Rudy brings a strong background in animal science and swine physiology. She earned her bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from Western Illinois University, followed by a master’s degree in swine reproductive physiology from Purdue University. Her research has focused on swine fetal development and the transmission of PRRSV during pregnancy.

Rudy’s industry experience includes serving as head of animal care at a biomedical swine facility and working as a swine service technician for a major pork processor. Her combination of academic training and hands-on expertise positions her to make a meaningful impact on the swine industry in South Dakota and beyond.

Her appointment is expected to enhance SDSU’s Extension efforts, equipping producers with the knowledge and tools needed to improve efficiency, sustainability, and animal health.
