Over 800 Producers Help Shape National Swine Health Strategy

More than 800 pork industry stakeholders from across the U.S. have shared their insights this summer through an online survey designed to guide the creation of a National Swine Health Strategy.

The initiative, led by the National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council, aims to identify and address the top swine health challenges facing producers today.

Producer-Driven Effort

Dr. Meredith Peterson, Director of Swine Health with the National Pork Board, said the response from the pork community shows a clear commitment to improving herd health:

“We asked producers about their top swine health priorities and how they want the industry to work toward addressing them,” Dr. Peterson explained. “Alongside the survey, we held 47 listening sessions across the country—small groups, large groups, producers, and industry stakeholders—all focused on hearing directly from those on the front lines.”

Dr. Peterson emphasized that this producer feedback will drive the process forward:

“The information we’ve gathered is critical. It’s the foundation for shaping the National Swine Health Strategy and ensures it reflects producer needs and priorities.”

Next Steps

The Producer Advisory Group will now review the collected data to identify the top swine health priorities for the industry to tackle.

“These priorities will be entirely based on what producers have told us,” Dr. Peterson said. “It’s a collaborative, grassroots effort—and it’s exciting to see producers driving this focus on swine health.”

The finalized priorities are expected to form the backbone of the National Swine Health Strategy in the coming months.
