China’s Restrictions on U.S. Pork Exports
NPPC submitted comments to the U.S. Trade Representative highlighting China’s trade barriers, including tariffs, sanitary rules, and testing requirements like mandatory ractopamine-free certification. Despite agreements under the 2020 U.S.-China Phase One deal, exports remain restricted, with China refusing to renew registrations for nine U.S. pork plants. China remains the No. 3 export market, accounting for $1.1 billion in U.S. pork sales in 2024.
Producers Urged to Prepare for Possible Government Shutdown
With potential federal funding lapses looming, NPPC emphasized the importance of continuing USDA’s Livestock Mandatory Reporting (LMR) even if a shutdown occurs. LMR provides essential price data and market transparency for livestock producers and underpins risk management programs. NPPC supports designating LMR staff as essential to prevent disruptions.
NPPC Engages at the Leman Swine Conference
Board member Todd Marotz and NPPC staff participated in the 2025 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, addressing policy issues ranging from state legislation to farm bill prospects. The annual event draws swine veterinarians and industry leaders from more than 20 countries, fostering science-based solutions for swine health and production.
