THOUGHTS FROM 109 KILDEE
Welcome and farewell
IPIC has a new face, but until we can be together in person you’ll have to image meeting Stacie Matchan. Her position is new, too, and focuses on coordinating and managing Iowa Swine Day (shameless plug: register now to attend any/all of the five virtual sessions) and work with finances, accounts and projects. You can see her info and photo under the “Primary campus IPIC faculty/staff — Animal Science heading” on our website.

And Max Rothschild officially retires from Iowa State and the animal science department this month. He still will be “around” doing a few things, but his official responsibilities will be ending. Congratulations and best wishes to Max!

Master Pork Award nominations due Aug. 1
IPPA announced this week that nominations for the 2020 Master Pork Awards — producers and partners, and the Environmental Steward Award — are now being accepted. All the info you need is on this page on the IPPA website. Remember the Aug. 1 deadline for applications. This program recognizes outstanding producers and partners, and we all know people who deserve this nomination.

PRODUCTION TIP
Keep your fans clean
When washing barns between groups and at other routine times, it is important to clean all part of the building fans as well: fan blades, shrouds, baffles and inlets all need to be clean to improve ventilation and fan efficiency. Dirty ventilation components reduce the efficiency of air movement, decrease motor longevity and increase energy costs.

As serious economic, personal and other stresses continue to impact and affect those in our agricultural community, know there is help.
