Kelsey Klitzman is a native of Brooklyn, Wisconsin. She’s grown up showing pigs, cattle and lambs alongside her sister, Kayla. She shares her agriculture experience with #RealPigFarming.

Kelsey Klitzman: My dad has a background in crops, but my sister and I primarily grew up with livestock. We played a part in our family’s cattle and pig operation, which is how I eventually found my love for pigs. I’ve been showing pigs ever since I was five-years-old.

KK: I’ve always like Yorkshires. One of my first pigs was a Yorkshire gilt, and since then, my love for the breed has only grown.

KK: The success I had is truly is a feeling that is hard to put into words. Year after year, putting in the work can be defeating if you don’t accomplish what you wish. This year my hard work paid off when I won Grand and Reserve Yorkshire Barrow and ended up placing Third Overall Barrow. It was also my last year of eligibility, so it was a bittersweet moment. Being able to accomplish this success with everyone who has helped me through the years will be something I will never forget.

KK: The National Junior Swine Association has given me something more than just a group of people. Being surrounded by peers with common interests, all working to help build the agricultural industry is something amazing to be a part of. I have gained many skills, from advocacy to basic skills that I’ve learned from showing pigs that will benefit me for the rest of my life.

KK: I want people to know that you can’t always believe what you hear. I want to encourage anyone who does not raise pigs to connect with someone who does if they have questions. Pig farmers give their pigs excellent care, and I want everyone to know that.

KK: Being able to meet so many new people I never would never been able to if I wasn’t a part of the NJSA. I have gained lifelong friends along the way and have made so many connections to help me further in my life.

KK: My goals for the future are to be able to help educate as many people about the agriculture and swine industry as I can. Being an advocate for something I truly believe in will always be a goal to achieve in life.
