Maria C. Zieba, NPPC Vice President of Government Affairs, recently took part in workshops held in Guatemala focused on improving surveillance and biosecurity measures for African swine fever (ASF) and Classical swine fever (CSF). These workshops are part of a broader collaboration between NPPC and the International Regional Organisation for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA), with the goal of enhancing animal health and food safety across Central America and the Caribbean.
The courses provided training on disease surveillance, biosecurity, and diagnostics, bringing together veterinary professionals, students, and agricultural producers from OIRSA member countries. The initiative aims to strengthen regional efforts in detecting and responding to foreign animal disease threats, promoting healthier agricultural production and supporting international trade in countries such as Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, and beyond.
This partnership underscores NPPC’s commitment to fostering biosecurity and safeguarding the swine industry from emerging disease threats on a global scale.
