NPPC Recap: ASF Vaccine Milestone, Global Ag Advocacy, and a Strong Showing at WPX

WOAH Adopts Global Standard for ASF Vaccines
The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has approved the first-ever international standard for African swine fever (ASF) vaccines, marking a critical step in the global fight against the disease. The standard outlines vaccine criteria focused on safety, efficacy, environmental protection, and genetic match to local ASF strains. NPPC welcomed the move, emphasizing the importance of vaccine quality as ASF continues to pose a global threat to pork production and trade.

Supporting Global Ag through IICA
NPPC, along with 43 other agricultural groups, urged the U.S. administration to continue supporting the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). In a letter to key government officials, the coalition praised IICA’s role in strengthening agriculture across the Americas, preventing animal disease outbreaks, reducing trade barriers, and supporting science-based trade policies. The institute is seen as a critical partner in reinforcing U.S. agricultural competitiveness on the global stage.

World Pork Expo 2025 a Resounding Success
The 37th annual World Pork Expo welcomed 10,000 attendees and nearly 400 exhibitors to the Iowa State Fairgrounds, showcasing innovation, education, and pork industry leadership. NPPC leaders, including President Duane Stateler and CEO Bryan Humphreys, hosted a media briefing highlighting the organization’s policy advocacy and alignment efforts at state, federal, and international levels.

Notable highlights included:

  • A high-profile Young Pork Advocates Issues Meet, with North Carolina’s Karla Branch taking top honors.
