The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) has approved up to $12 million in tax incentives to support JBS USA’s construction of a fresh sausage production facility in Perry, Iowa, as part of the state’s High Quality Jobs program.
Key highlights of the project include:
-
The $135 million investment will fund a 150,000 sq ft plant designed to process approximately 500,000 sows annually.
-
Initial hiring will ramp up to 250 employees within the first three years, eventually growing to 500 jobs with average wages exceeding $30/hour for at least 60 positions.
-
This announcement follows the loss of 1,300 jobs in Perry when a Tyson pork plant shut down last summer.
-
Projected to be fully operational by late 2026, the new plant is part of JBS’s expanding Iowa footprint, which already includes facilities in Council Bluffs, Marshalltown, Ottumwa, and more.
-
Governor Kim Reynolds praised the move, stating it reflects confidence in Iowa’s workforce and brings renewed vitality to the rural community.
-
Wesley Batista Filho, CEO of JBS USA, expressed gratitude for the state’s support and highlighted the company’s goal of establishing a “best-in-class” sausage operation while contributing to local economic development.
Swine Web will continue monitoring this development, including permit progress, construction milestones, and staffing updates at the Perry facility.
