Jeffrey Ettinger, who led Hormel Foods Corp. for more than a decade, is entering politics, seeking to win the 1st District congressional seat left vacant by the death of U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn.

The Austin Daily Herald talks with Ettinger, who retired as CEO of Hormel Foods (NYSE: HRL) in October 2016 and as chairman of the board in late 2017. He now serves as chairman of The Hormel Foundation, which owns nearly half of Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel.

Ettinger, who’s joining a field of 11 candidates for Hagedorn’s seat, says he’ll run as a moderate Democrat.
