The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) continues its viral ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion, and with only one week left in the tryouts, Iowa State Cyclone football players Dominique Orange and Carson Rhodes are the next-to-last members vying to join the initiative. The NIL (name, image, likeness) partnership aims to promote pork consumption, with more Iowa State student athletes being recruited for this fun and engaging campaign.
Dominique Orange, a junior defensive lineman from Kansas City, and Carson Rhodes, a freshman offensive lineman from Nevada, Iowa, are hoping to join the likes of Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, Tommy Hamann, Caleb Bacon, Alec Cook, and Zach Lovett in the promotion, which launched last September. The campaign quickly gained traction, going viral on social media, capturing national media attention, and earning recognition as the Best NIL Deal of 2023.
The big question for Orange and Rhodes: Do their last names fit into the slogan ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’? Fans are invited to watch the video and see how their names might be worked in.
Supporting Local Food Banks In conjunction with their tryouts, IPPA will be donating $1,000 worth of pork to local food initiatives. Carson Rhodes’ participation will result in a donation to Cubbie’s Cupboard in Nevada, Iowa, while Dominique Orange’s involvement will see $1,000 worth of pork donated to the Food Equality Initiative in Lenexa, Kansas.
“Well, I didn’t think my last name would be worked into anything pork-related, but I’m really happy to try it,” Rhodes said. “Obviously, we had a really good time with it, and being from Iowa, I’ve been eating Iowa pork for a very long time. We have some great pork tenderloin spots in central Iowa. It’s hard to beat a good pork tenderloin.”
“I saw it on social media last year, and to be able to be a part of it this year is the coolest thing,” said Orange. “Being able to help out people back home is really a blessing.”
