Dr. Glen Almond Named Outstanding Swine Academic of the Year

Dr. Glen Almond has been named the 2026 Outstanding Swine Academic of the Year, recognizing his excellence in teaching, research, and service to the swine veterinary profession.

Almond serves as a professor of swine health and production management at North Carolina State University, where he has spent decades educating future veterinarians and advancing research related to swine production systems.

His research has focused on reproductive physiology, urogenital disease, and the interaction between disease and growth, contributing valuable insights to the understanding of swine health and production management.

While Almond’s research contributions have been significant, many colleagues and students say his greatest impact has been through mentorship and education. As coordinator of a senior swine medicine course at North Carolina State University, he has helped create educational opportunities for veterinary students from numerous universities and countries.

Known for his open-door mentoring style, Almond has guided generations of veterinary students entering the swine industry. Many of those students credit him as a key influence in their careers.

Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Almond earned his BSc, MSc, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Guelph before completing his PhD at North Carolina State University.

The Outstanding Swine Academic of the Year Award recognizes academic professionals who demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service to the swine veterinary profession.
