As March closes out, hog markets in both Canada and the U.S. saw modest shifts, with pricing slightly down in Ontario and U.S. markets, while feed costs showed minor movement.
🇨🇦 Canadian Highlights:

Ontario 100% Base Price fell to $230.15/ckg, continuing a gentle decline from earlier in the month.

Average dressed hog price settled at $263.21/ckg, with a low of $238.66 and a high of $280.86.

Market hog numbers remained strong with 124,754 head sold, up 6% over last year.

Weaned pig values dropped slightly to $59.84/pig, while feeder pigs eased to $94.94/pig.

Quebec pool price held steady at $213.63/ckg, while Manitoba’s value closed at $238.07/ckg.

Prime interest rate remained unchanged at 4.95%.

The Canadian dollar edged up slightly to $0.6990 USD, still well below last year’s $0.7380.
🇺🇸 U.S. Market Snapshot:

Federally inspected slaughter rebounded to 2.48 million head, a 4% increase over last year.

Sow slaughter continues to trend lower, down 4.5% year-over-year.

Early weaned pig prices slipped again to $51.44 USD/pig, while 40 lb feeder pigs dropped to $99.52 USD/pig.

CME Lean Hog Futures showed stability with April closing at $86.70 USD/cwt, and June at $95.78.

Pork cutout futures climbed, with April finishing at $98.08 USD/cwt.

USDA pork carcass cutout value also ticked up to $96.39, continuing a mild upward trend.
🌽 Feed Market Trends:

Soybean meal prices decreased slightly to $477.86/tonne in Hamilton.

Western Ontario corn dropped to $249.82/tonne, while new crop corn eased to $225.38.

Chicago corn futures for May closed at $4.5325 USD/bu, and soybeans at $10.23 USD/bu.
🐷 Cross-Border Pig Flow:

Feeder pig imports into the U.S. totaled 95,002, mainly through Montana and Michigan routes.

Market hog imports dropped slightly to 24,463, and sow/boar slaughter imports came in at 6,156 head.
