Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan has officially opened nominations for its 2025 Champion Award, which celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to educate and engage consumers about food and farming in Saskatchewan.
The award recognizes leaders who help bridge the growing disconnect between the public and modern agriculture. With fewer Canadians directly involved in farming today—only about 1.6% of the population—there is a growing need for trusted voices who can explain everything from biotechnology and GMOs to livestock production practices.
“Over 150 years ago, 80% of Canadians lived in rural areas. Today, that number has flipped, and many people have little or no direct connection to agriculture,” said Clinton Monchuk, Executive Director of Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan. “We need to do a better job of telling our story so that the other 98.4% of Canadians understand what we do. This leads to more informed conversations, better policies, and a stronger agricultural community.”
The Champion Award is designed to highlight and reward those making a real impact in this space—building trust and strengthening the voice of agriculture across the province and beyond.
Nominations are open until August 31, 2025, and can be submitted online at farmfoodcaresk.org.
