Weekly Livestock Update with Scott Brown, December 31st 2018


Some highlights from this week’s Weekly Livestock Market Update: •Market Recap – Cash live fed cattle were up $1.50 this week. Given the holiday week, there were no feeder cattle sales to test prices for the week. On futures markets, the February live cattle futures traded up $1.40 for the week while the January cattle futures traded $1.80 for the week. The choice boxed beef price gained $2.75 this week on strength in all components except ribs. Cash barrow and gilt prices were unchanged while the February lean hog futures contract was down only slightly. The pork cutout value was down .30 cents this week, as strength in belly prices was outweighed by picnics and hams. •Next week’s reports: Restaurant Performance Index and Jobs Report
