Scott Brown Weekly Livestock update from the University of Missouri, January 30th 2017

Some highlights from this week’s Weekly Livestock Market Update:

•USDA released its Cattle on Feed report. Placements were up 18 percent, marketings up 7 percent, and the total cattle on feed also up slightly.
•However – University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says there are signs of contraction.
•The Cattle Inventory report, which is a complete breakdown of all cattle in the US as of January 1 is released on Tuesday. It will shed some light on the long-term changes at the cow/calf level.
•USDA also released cold storage numbers, beef stocks were up and pork stocks were down.
•Brown says it continues to be a “Tale of Two Proteins” as we see continued strength in the pork market.
•Scott and Meghan discuss how the actions of President Trump on trade this could impact livestock markets in the long-term.
