What: The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA), along with the Illinois Livestock Development Group (ILDG), is coordinating an Open House for A new 2,400 head wean to finish hog barn for young farmer, Andy Gathman, near Easton, IL.
When: Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Ribbon cutting at 5:30 PM
Where: 16143 County Road 2500 E, Easton, IL 62633
Why: The Gathman’s are inviting friends, family, and community members to their barn as an opportunity to explore and ask questions before the pigs move in. The ILDG and the IPPA share a common goal of promoting these farmers’ contributions to their family, and community.
Directions to the farm are as follows: From Havana – Go east on U.S. Highway 136 for approximately 9 miles, turn right (south) on County Road 2500 E. and go ¾ mile to farm. Watch for signs.
Grain farmers are encouraged to attend the event to learn about the possible benefits of contract pork production including:
Diversifying farm income during low commodity prices
Helping bring back a son or daughter to the farm
Utilizing manure as a fertilizer source to lower crop input costs
Pork industry representatives will be available to answer questions.
