Ben Johnson a sophomore at Iowa State University has been named the 2017 Minnesota Pork Ambassador. He is the son of Brian and Susan Johnson of Walnut Grove, Minnesota.

Johnson has been involved in his family’s swine and crop farm and participated in 4-H and FFA.

In addition to being named the 2017 Pork Ambassador, Johnson also won the Minnesota Pork board essay contest with his essay “The View From Des Moines.”

Johnson wrote in his winning essay: “As pork producers and agriculturalists, every day we are faced with many problems and often find ourselves fighting uphill battles. Volatile markets, rising costs of expansion, shortages of labor and the miscommunication between producers and the public are just a few out of many current and important issues facing today’s pork producers. In my personal opinion, I believe the most important issue to be miscommunication.”

He will be promoting pork throughout Minnesota at Oink Outings and schools, Pork Expo and the Minnesota State Fair.
