The Feeding Initiative Program released their annual report for fiscal 2011-12. The Feeding Initiative Program is about the funding of research and development projects addressing the competitiveness of feed grains in Alberta. The program arises from a contract between the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA) which has provided $8 million in funding for the initiative, and the Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund (ACIDF) which administers the funds. The program has now completed its second year of a five-year mandate dealing with the utilization, value and breeding innovation of feed grains.

The 2011-12 program highlights include the new NIRS Equipment Grant of $750,000 from ALMA to enhance adoption of NIRS technology in the livestock and grain industry; 21 successful industry grant applications for purchase of NIRS equipment; and the further allocation of $3.4 million of Feeding Initiative program funds to 13 proposals whose outcomes contribute to the program’s priorities.
